What happens at your hygiene appointment

Whether it’s your first visit or you’ve been with us for years, we’ll always begin by discussing your gum health, any barriers to looking after your teeth at home, such as a lack of time or motivation and your current steps to caring for your smile.

However, please note that there’s never any judgment or disappointment if you’ve fallen behind with your at-home oral hygiene care or neglected it for some time.

We completely understand how this can happen and wouldn’t be here if we didn’t want to help make it all better for you. It all begins with a first step, and we’re glad you’re taking yours, no matter how long it’s been.

“I was told I had gum disease at 16 and regret not taking it seriously for the next 16 years. With a lot of plaque and tartar build-up, bleeding gums, persistent bad breath and signs that my gums were beginning to recede, it actually stopped me from wanting to go to the dentist. I was scared that removing the plaque would reveal gaps between my teeth caused by deep black pockets that were starting to form and more gum recession. But after being forced to go to a dentist because of tooth pain, and then being recommended a hygiene appointment and having my teeth thoroughly cleaned, I could not be happier with the results, and none of my fears came true. My teeth looked great. I had to have two back-to-back hygiene appointments, then two more appointments three months apart – now my oral health has been restored, my gums no longer bleed, and I’m back to bi-annual appointments. I’ve never looked back.”

It matters – take control of gum disease before it takes control of you

Catching gum disease in its early stages is the best thing you can do for your oral health, because in the gingivitis stage, it is completely reversible and manageable. When the disease goes ignored and is allowed to progress, it cannot be cured, but only managed, and here, your care will require more frequent appointments to prevent future complications like receding gums, wobbly teeth and even tooth loss.

Regular hygiene visits (typically required twice a year) reduce inflammation and protect the bones and gums that support your smile.
